Applying for a Texas CHL License
There are two preliminary steps to apply for the Texas Concealed Handgun License (CHL).
You have up to two years after taking the CHL certification course and receiving the certification (form CHL-100) from us to submit your paperwork to DPS, so there is no rush if you need more time to send your packet for any reason. It's totally up to you!
To apply for your Texas CHL: log on to the DPS website and complete your application online with DPS (Preferred Method). You cannot schedule fingerprinting until you have completed the application process online. Click Here to go to the DPS website to apply online.
If you apply online, DPS will require you to pay on-line with a credit card and they will send you're pre-filled out packet to you in the mail. If you call them and request a packet, they will send you a packet by mail and you can send them your application fee later.
Once you receive your packet from DPS bring it with you to class. If you have not called to request a CHL packet, just come to class and our instructor can provide you with a packet during class.
